LA-RUSTON/MONROE-Shayla Blake
Coordinator: Shayla Blake
Bio: Shayla Blake grew up in Florida and began studying piano and flute at a young age.  As a piano major, collegiate studies began at Stetson University in Florida and continued at Texas Tech University where she studied with William Westney, Artist-in-Residence.  As an undergraduate, she was a winner in the University’s Concerto Competition.  After achieving a Bachelor’s degree in piano performance, she then completed her Master’s Degree in Piano Performance during which time, she was a graduate teaching assistant.

Shayla  has maintained a private piano and flute teaching studio and has also taught on the music faculty at Louisiana Tech University.  She has been interim Choral Director at Ruston High School and directed choirs of all ages in area churches.  She is currently Staff Accompanist at Louisiana Tech University.

Shayla and her husband, Mack, have been performing concerts and leading worship for 30 years.  They have produced five independent albums, with almost exclusively original songs written by Shayla. Over the years, Shayla has been the featured vocalist and pianist for conferences as well as a busy accompanist.  As a composer and arranger, she has had several choral pieces published and has two new releases scheduled for publication in 2011.

Shayla  enjoys spending time with her husband, Mack, and their two daughters, Abbey, 22  (who lives in Nashville!) and Anna, 14.
