NSAI is saddened by the passing of Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member Hank Cochran, who died Thursday, July 15.  He was 74.  A native of Isola, Miss., Cochran is known for writing classics such as “I Fall To Pieces,” "Make The World Go Away," "The Chair" and “Don't You Ever Get Tired Of Hurtin' Me.”  He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1974.  Details on a public memorial service will be forthcoming.  The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame FoundationFor more on Hank Cochran, click the headline above.  Hank's bio on his website is available at hankcochran.com.

Want industry professionals to hear YOUR songs? Then you need connections! And that’s exactly what sets the NSAI Song Contest Presented by CMT apart from all the others. The contest runs from August 1 through October 31, 2010. The Grand Prize Winner will receive a mentoring session with Capitol Records Nashville recording artist and Grammy-winning songwriter, Darius Rucker! Past winners understand this is a powerful vehicle to get “discovered” and have found success from signing an artist development deal with DreamWorks Records to securing a music-publishing staff writer deal. This nationwide platform is for aspiring songwriters in ALL GENRES to submit their best tunes with one Grand Prize Winner and one CMT Listeners’ Choice Winner. Only 1 Saturday Sessions Left

NSAI will be open from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. for one more Saturdays this summer to better serve you and introduce our organization to other songwriters.  Say hello to fellow songwriters, take a tour, let our staff answer your questions or book a Writers Room.  No appointments necessary (except to book a Writers Room) . . .  just show up!  Last Saturday, Pro songwriter Danny Wells (“Little Bit Of Life” by Craig Morgan / “These Days” by Rascal Flatts) -- one of our NSAI Board Members who is very active in our legislative efforts -- joined us to perform a few songs and answer a few questions.  To check out our gallery of photos, click the headline above.

Haul out the Hits and Deck the Discs . . .  the NSAI Song Evaluation Department is celebrating Christmas in July!  All month long, Santa’s helpers, better known as our Pro Evaluators, want to hear your best Christmas/Holiday song.  They’ll listen, send you an evaluation, and if your song is judged “ready to pitch,” they’ll recommend it.  The Top 12 recommended songs will be included on the NSAI Best of the Holidays compilation CD that will be presented to all publishers attending the next P2P (Pitch-to-Publishers) Luncheon.  Writers of the Top 12 songs will be notified.  Complete details on how to submit your song are in the Members section of the NSAI website under Song Evaluations.  So crank up the AC, hang a stocking over your computer and get started on that holiday hit!  NOTE: You must select “A CHRISTMAS IN JULY” for the genre when submitting for the song to be included for the “Christmas In July” promotion.
